Elephants Even Smarter Than Once Thought?

Researchers working with African Elephants have released a report indicating that the animals can differentiate between threatening people and non-threatening people by the color and scent of their clothes.

The elephants showed an obvious aversion to red cloth, traditionally worn by the Masaai tribe, who prove their virility by spearing the creatures; they showed no aversion to white clothes, traditionally worn by the Kamba tribe, an agrarian group.

The researchers noted that the elephants abilities may prove to exceed even those of chimps. The only caveat to these findings that I noticed was that one of the researchers said they were looking for these results going into the experiment.
