At 33, I have never owned my own home. In my parents' day, this would have made me a "loser" (or "looser," in Web-terms), but in our present time, I honestly know only a handful of people my age who do or ever have. Of course, I am at the age where I am starting to learn more about the market and what is involved, but I still have a lot to learn - and one of those subjects is mortgages.

I have only a very general idea of what a mortgage even is, much less how it works. I get the basic gist of it, but I would be walking into any mortgage lenders office with my nose wide-open. While I always urge everyone to research before they get involved in anything, buying a home is one of the most important decisions you will ever make in your life, so this particular area deserves a little extra urging.
