In July, an unidentifiable creature washed ashore outside of the Montauk Surfside Inn. Several eyewitnesses saw the beast and three women took some digital pictures of it, but then it disappeared!
The story made the rounds on all the major networks and the women involved were interviewed by a few. One of the three later said the other two were full of shit, but did not clarify. She did, however, release a third photo which clearly showed the sex of the animal (male). The two women claimed some friends had taken the creature away and it was "in a box."
Later, some surfer dudes said they were hoping scientists would contact them for samples and they still had the bones of the animal - whatever it was. Around this time came the conclusion (by "experts" who never viewed the corpse) that the Montauk Monster was actually a raccoon. Again, no one has viewed the corpse or taken DNA samples for testing.
At that point, the matter was promptly dropped.
