National Geographic got special clearance to film at the wreck site of the HMHS Brittanic through the end of the month. Sadly, Carl Spencer, a 37-year old American diver for the company working on-site, died after surfacing too fast. Divers call the affliction "The Bends." According to attending medical workers, he lost consciousness and never recovered. National Geographic has not released a statement.
Death rarely occurs, though rashes, joint pain, headaches, and even paralysis are other symptoms. It can take anywhere from several hours to several days for sufferers to even become aware of the effects.
