I don't remember the first house or two in which we lived as a child, but the first house I remember had neither an attic nor basement - nor did the next! It was not until we moved into the last home we owned as a family that we had an attic; before that, we had outdoor sheds.

Of course, storage is only one possible use for metal buildings. A childhood friend who has since married bought one specifically to game in (RPG in his case, which means it doubled as a storage area for all his books, miniatures, and accoutrement). They come in all shapes and sizes and while you need to check with your local court clerk, there are rarely big financial or zoning issues to overcome.
