A 10-year-old Colombian girl became one of the youngest women on record to give birth. She is apparently a member of the Wayuu tribe, which has its own jurisdiction, so charges against the father will not be pursued by conventional authorities. The 5-lb. baby girl was born by C-section, which is not unusual in cases of birth involving girls of such a young age, as their bodies are simply incapable of giving birth properly. Doctors also noted that the age at which girls start menstruating keeps dropping, though it remains at about age 12 to 13 for most girls.
