Frankenfish

Mark Sawyer caught a fish experts believe is an amalgamation of three different species - roach, goldfish, and bream. While some might think the catch is a hoax, Sawyer is an editor at the Angling Times so he is not likely to perpetuate a hoax at the expense of his reputation. You can see pictures of the "Frankenfish" here.

WoW

Sorry for the absence, but a friend bought me World of Warcraft so he'd have someone to play with. I finally sat down and watched The Guild (highly recommended) and enjoyed it so much, I mentioned to a friend of mine how much I'd liked it and jokingly said it made me interested to play World of Warcraft.

As it turns out, World of Warcraft is/was running some kind of promotion to recruit new players, so my friend surprised the heck out of me by purchasing the game for me! I know I'm way late to this party, but I'm having one hell of a time!

Anyway, that is where I have been the last week: learning this incredibly complicated game and how to play games like it on my computer. I've never used my left hand for much, much less navigating a character through the treacherous world. Of Warcraft. So it's made me sore in weird places, but I'm still enjoying myself immensely.

We'll be back to more news o' the weird and inexplicable shortly.

New Expedition for Mokele-Mbembe

Mokele-Mbembe is the name of what some eyewitnesses claim is a large sauropod living in the Republic of Congo. The name literally means "thunder lizard" and reports of the creature go back many years. While many established scientists have suggested that Mokele-Mbembe is nothing more than a mistaken elephant or the like, residents of the area believe very strongly in the creature's existence despite no hard evidence of its existence having ever been discovered.

Now, a Missouri man has raised over $25,000USD toward a new expedition in the area. The expedition was funded through Kickstarter and will send Stephen McCullah and several of his colleagues to the region to search for all sorts of new species, including Mokele-Mbembe. McCullah told a reporter that the expedition did not expect to find hard evidence of the thunder lizard, but did expect to be able to say whether or not the creature exists after a few months of observation.

The Kickstarter campaign rose $27,000 for the expedition, set to take place in late June.

12 Sets of Twins Set to Graduate from GA School

A Georgia school has 12 sets of fraternal and identical twins about to graduate school. Reporters also found a school in Illinois that has 14 sets of twins in its sophomore class alone. While modern fertility drugs might be to blame for some of the twins, science suggests that twins are more naturally occurring to women in their 30s and 40s.

Many people have traditionally associated twins with things like ESP, mental telepathy, and fate/luck - both good and bad. As mentioned above, they are most often associated with fertility treatments these days.

The Chippewa River Loch Ness Monster

A sculpture meant to represent the Loch Ness Monster showed up in Wisconcin's Chippewa River and authorities want it gone. No one is sure who erected the sculpture, but it is said to be obstructing the river and must be taken down. Although one local outlet received an anonymous letter from a writer claiming responsibility, no one knows for sure exactly who placed the sculpture in the river or how it was erected.

New Project

I am working on a new project that really has very little to do with this blog, though it may excite some readers. I am not at liberty to discuss it at this point, as it is still in its very early stages, but a lot of my time has been spent on this project recently and I expect a great deal more time will be spent on it in the future, so I wanted to let you know that things may continue to be slow for now.

I have been running this blog for a long time now, so long time readers know not to worry; everything is fine and good and The OddBlog will continue to serve up news of the weird, just more slowly for the immediate future. Things have been pretty sporadic here lately, so I am just confirming what you already knew.
