Authorities in the German Bavaria arrested a couple for listing their baby for sale on eBay.
The 7-month old child was listed as "nearly-new" and "can be used either in a baby carrier or stroller." The woman, 23, insists the listing was a joke. She told reporters she is being subjected to psychiatric testing. The couple was arrested on charges of child trafficking.
The opening bid was for about $1.50.
We'll see how this plays out, but I have to admit, I get it - and thought it pretty funny. Seeing as how authorities were alerted to the auction, it seems kinda stupid they did not bid on it - after all, the only way to be sure it was not a joke would be if they managed to complete the transaction and the couple actually packed the kid up in peanut plastic and shipped it out, marked DO NOT BEND.

on one hand I think it's a little funny... (if it really was a joke) but we live in a sick world where if the right amount was offered they may have taken it!
so are they charged now or what?
You know, I started to say the same thing, but when she listed it as "nearly-new" and "can be used in a stroller," etc., then mentions the reason they are selling is because it's gotten "too loud," I think it's pretty funny.
Yes, according to what I read, they were charged, but I don't know how German law works; I think they were being held on "suspicion" or something.
I agree with blogengage it is funny but what would make you think of this as a joke? Who is she playing the joke on? I personally love to play pranks but this seems a little odd to me.
Ah, she's young and stupid. Plus, she's German, so I'm sure she was bored.
You know how people do online and we've all done it - you get bored and don't really consider whatever it is you're doing or whatever. I don't know if it was a joke or not, but I have a pretty good feeling it was - not on anyone or specifically to anyone, just a silly thing done out of boredom.
I can totally see her sitting at the computer, rolling her eyes as the baby screams in the background, and just figuring "what the hell?"
Like I said, the only way to ever know if they were serious would have been to try and actually buy the baby.
