Things What Done Fell from the Sky - Wolverhampton Paved

Vatican Sponsors Workshop on Exorcism, Satanism

The Vatican is sponsoring a weekend workshop at the Regina Apostolorum Pontifical University in Rome, focusing on Satanism, exorcism, and sharing information on various Devil-worshiping sects. According to some Catholic experts, the Internet makes learning about Satanism and the Occult so much easier that it's resulted in a surge of interest in these dark interests.

The workshop brings together professionals from several realms, including psychologists and doctors. Non-religious people often argue demonic possession and similar concepts in which the victim loses control of his will or body are actually attacks brought upon by some mental/emotional dysfunction.

Things What Done Fell from the Sky - Candy

On the nights of September 2nd and 11th, 1857, sections of Lake County, California complained of showers of sugar and candy. "The crystals were from 1/8 - 1/4" in length and the size of a goose quill." The good ladies of Lake County even made syrup from it.

Tennessee Seizes Mephedrone Products

The State of Tennessee mandated seizure of the product known as Molly's Plant Food.  Packets of Molly's Plant Food contained one to two pills, which sold for $8-12 apiece.  The pills, or capsules, were taken as ecstacy, as they contained mephedrone.  Mephedrone is classified as both a stimulant and cathinone, with side effects such as elevated blood pressure, increased heart rate, psychotic behavior, and more.

Mephedrone, also known as "M" or "M-Kat," was the focus of scrutiny in the UK last year.  It was eventually banned there, as well.

Russia Establishes Yeti Institute

Following no fewer than 15 reported encounters in recent months, Russian officials are establishing an institute dedicated to the research of this Siberian Yeti out of Kemerovo State University. Dr. Igor Burtsev, who will lead the department, said he believes up to 30 Yeti live in the area in which the reports were collected during an expedition last summer.

Dr. Burtsev says the Yeti are approximately 7' tall and resemble bears with red and black fur. The tribe lives near the remote Mount Shoria region in southern Siberia. He believes these Bigfoot may be Neanderthal who have managed to survive into the present age. But, though two-legged, these Yeti are known for their tree-climbing abilities.

Dr. Burtsev said there are about 30 Russian scientists working on projects regarding the Abominable Snowman in some fashion, and all will be integrated into the new institute. Leading Russian scientists continue to deny the existence of Bigfoot, though some anecdotal evidence was uncovered during an expedition into Asia.

Things What Done Fell from the Sky - Manna?

The word "manna" is defined as "food of the gods" and comes from at least one story in the Holy Bible. There are several theories as to what manna is, both historically and otherwise, as well as to what exactly the substance is that that fell in Persia in 1828, but the reason it is noteworthy - aside from the obvious fact that something unknown fell from the sky and covered the fields - is that the livestock consumed it "enthusiastically."

The material, whatever it was, covered the fields to a depth of 7-8".

Sammy Hagar Claims He Was Abducted by Aliens

In an interview with MTV, rocker Sammy Hagar says he believes he was once abducted by aliens and taken aboard a spaceship. He also says he threw rocks at a UFO in broad daylight when he was about four and may have blacked-out following that. He denied that either incident was a dream and says the reason more of these stories are not included in his new autobiography, Red: My Uncensored Life in Rock, is because his collaborator dissuaded him from including them.

Quick Apology

Hey guys, sorry I've been away, but I had to do some technical stuff the past couple of weeks. So, even though I have been working here and across the site, you probably haven't noticed. I would have taken a moment to drop you a line before now, but I'd get involved in what I'm doing and forget until I was ready for bed, then wouldn't feel doing it...

There is a Google PageRank update that occurs every three months, and I had not paid any attention to it in a year or more, so it was way past time for me to handle that stuff. Of course, it had been so long since I'd done anything with it that it was a larger project than I expected. Anyway, so things are back on-track for what I had to do, and we'll get back to regular posting this week. Thanks!

Lake Champlain, 1878

One of the earliest recorded descriptions of the creature in Lake Champlain that would later come to be known as Champ was given in 1878. On August 30th of that year, six people aboard a yacht on the lake saw the creature. One witness estimated Champ's length at over 50 feet. This same witness described the beast as having "two large folds just back of the head projecting above the water," with "two or more folds at what was apparently the tail."

Lake Champlain is about 100 miles long and connects Vermont, New York, and Canada. Champ has been spotted consistently over the years, well into the last century.  In 1977, Sandra Mansi took a famous photograph of Champ while visiting Lake Champlain.

Salem Witches Want to Help Charlie Sheen

Christian Day, a spokesperson for area Salem witches, says the group is going to try to help Charlie Sheen through witchcraft. Apparently, the group took umbrage to Sheen's use of the word "warlock" to describe himself, but decided against cursing him.

"Charlie Sheen is not a warlock, for a warlock is a wise person who understands the ways of the spirit world. No truly wise person would betray their own soul the way that he's done," Day told reporters.

Silent Cities - Ireland, 1796

In October 1796, the visage of a walled town appeared to residents in Youghal, Ireland. It was dismissed as a mirage.

The mirage reappeared in March, 1797.

Then, in June 1801, Youghal residents reported the mirage of an entire, and completely unknown, city. The city was filled with mansions surrounded by shrubbery. A forest spread behind it.

Ball Lightning: Eastern Airlines March 19, 1963

After Eastern Airlines Flight EA 539 was struck by lightning on March 19th, 1963, passengers say Ball Lightning emerged from the pilot's cabin and floated down the aisle.  The Ball Lightning was about 20cm in diameter, perfectly symmetrical, and "almost solid in appearance."  It produced light equivalent to that of a 10-watt bulb and gave off no heat.

The Ball Lightning maintained "the same height and course for the whole distance over which it could be observed," according to witness, R.C. Jennison, who spoke to Nature in 1969.

Things What Done Fell from the Sky: Flesh and Blood, L.A.

A funeral party was astounded when blood poured from the skies over a cornfield near Los Angeles, California.  It was a clear Sunday in July, 1869.  Not only was the substance that fell from the sky a vivid red, the eyewitnesses say they also found hair and "portions of organs."

Peruvians Find Mysterious Crack in Earth

Residents across Puno, Peru were disturbed to find a 3km wide x 100km long crack in the earth across their lands.  Experts say the crack was not caused by an earthquake, leading others to speculate on what, exactly, the source of the crack might be.  The rupture appeared in the Huacullani district in the Chucuito province, and knocked over at least one home.  A 5-year-old child who was inside the house was still missing when this post was written.

In November, 2010, Bolivian residents faced a similar fissure.  Residents noticed a "fire" beneath the surface, leading experts to suggest that a build-up of gases underground caused the crack.  A similar phenomenon may be at-play in the Peruvian incident.  Peru and Bolivia both border the ancient Lake Titicaca.

Geological engineers are investigating.
