Dentist Pulls Out All of Ex' Teeth

A Polish dentist, Anna Mackowiak, said she tried to remain professional and detached when her ex-boyfriend showed up, complaining of a toothache. However, she gave him a heavy dose of anesthetic and locked the door, then began pulling his teeth one by one.

When the patient awoke, he said he knew something was wrong but trusted her because he thought she was being professional. Now his new flame has left him over his toothlessness and he says he will have to spend a fortune in getting implants.

Anna Mackowiak, 34, faces three years in prison and is being reviewed for medical malpractice.

Oak Barrels

I have a growing interest in wines, though I do not think I will ever venture into winemaking. However, I have known a lot of people who have made their own wines. If you are serious about the matter, you need the right equipment - like oak barrels. The best wines are always aged in barrels - at least as far as I know. Again, I do not know a lot about wines, but I am starting to become more interested, so let me know if you are a winemaker who reads The OddBlog!

Anderson Cooper UFO Show

Yesterday, Anderson Cooper's daytime talk show, he discussed the possibility of UFOs with a panel of guests who had experienced abductions or seen evidence suggesting to them that something might be out there. Another guest was a high-ranking authority from MUFON, and his nemesis (on the episode) was a skeptic. While two of the guests claimed to have been abducted, the third simply stated she had witnessed something outside her house that had dumped "glitter" on her trees.

The skeptic played directly into form, suggesting sightings were geese, Jupiter, and other ridiculous nonsense. He then personally attacked the representative from MUFON, claiming the latter had no idea what he was talking about "as usual."

The show was more sensationalistic than anything, and very little evidence was observed or given time. In fact, the entire thing did not even last a full hour. While an interesting view, it wasn't worth looking for online.

Meteor Over California?

A loud explosion rattled windows and even knocked one eyewitness off her feet as a bright light streaked through the California sky Sunday morning. Experts say it is likely a meteor entered the Earth's atmosphere, though others are still uncertain as to what, exactly, caused the blast.

Authorities say the meteor was a "fireball," a particular type of meteor that is often visible to people on the ground but rarely explodes or makes a noise. For that to have happened, the fireball must have stayed intact well beyond the point where most break apart.

Reminders

Hi guys and gals, I just wanted to remind you of how a few things around here work so there's no confusion - or at least less than there may have been.

Comments are moderated, so your comment will not be seen when you first submit it. They are usually on the site within 24 hours or so, but it may be longer.

Stories are generally "updated" through the comments. As new information becomes available, instead of writing a new post, I will usually just include the new information in the comments section of the original post. To subscribe to a post, see the comments section for options. Once subscribed, you will be notified of new comments as they are left.

We have no set schedule, so posts sometimes appear in rapid succession or they may not appear for several days at a time. We try to post at least one story every weekday, but that is not always possible. Subscribe to the RSS feed to stay on top things, or check back at least a few times each week for new material.

I post this information about once every year or so, just to remind everyone of how things work here. I hope it's helpful and, as always, thanks for reading!

Why a Wheel?

The New York Times reported a strange incident on April 17th, 1969. It appears Ruth Stevens of California was driving when a wheel of some kind emerged from the sky and struck her car, leaving a one-foot dent. The article does not describe the wheel, nor does it give any further details, but no local airport reported any aircraft with missing wheels that day.

Hen Gives Birth to Chick

A hen in Sri Lanka gave birth to a live, eggless chick but died from internal wounds in the process. Veterinarians claim to never have seen such an incident. The egg incubated inside the hen and the chick hatched prior to birth.

A Sri Lankan newspaper joked, "The chicken came first, not the egg."

Mutilated Cow Found in Kansas

In mid-January of this year (2012), police investigated a cattle mutilation just outside of Kansas City. The cow's udder and sexual organs had been removed by "someone who knew what they were doing," according to a veterinarian familiar with the case. Needless to say, no suspects or persons of interest have been named yet.

The cow was ill and separated from the rest of the cattle. It was fine when it was last seen the night before it was mutilated. No blood was found at the scene. Experts say the cow did not die from the mutilation, but did not know what killed it.

Weight Loss Side Effects

I have a friend who is dangerously overweight. He freely admits that it is his own fault - he does not eat well, does not exercise properly, and sits around more than he is active - but that does not change the fact that he needs some serious help fast. Of course, I do not want to tell him to get on a pill because you never know how that can affect someone. However, there are sites that plainly list all of the lipo30 side effects, for example. So do your research first, but if you are dangerously overweight, you need to do something about it before it dramatically affects your health.

Freak Lightning Strike Kills Father

A father of one in the UK died after being struck by lightning in what experts say is a "one in 10 million" chance. Justin Feber was not touching anything metal when he was struck; he was standing on the ground, drinking a cup of tea. Horrified colleagues say a storm seemed to appear above them before they heard a loud thunderclap and saw a flash of light.

Only about five people a year die from lightning strikes in the UK.

Indian Officials Offer $2000 Reward for Captured Vampires

Residents of Dharampuri in India are refusing to come outside after nightfall and have taken to painting holy symbols on the fronts of their houses to ward off Ratha Kaatten -- local vampires. After a spate of cattle killings in the area, word spread that the cattle were being killed by Ratha Kaatten.

Authorities say the rumors were started by bootleggers and other criminals whose night time activities were being disturbed. To prove there are no Ratha Kaatten attacking the livestock, they have offered a $2000 reward for the corpse of any vampire.

Boy Sold Kidney for iPad

Five have been charged with illegal organ trading over an incident involving a 17-year-old boy who sold one of his kidneys for enough money to buy an iPad. The boy, who has not been identified, is now suffering from renal failure and other complications. The surgeon who performed the operation was among those charged for the crime. The boy was paid nearly $5,000 for his kidney.

This all took place in China. The boy is from one of the poorest provinces in the country - a province most people leave to look for better jobs. It is also said that illegal organ trading is becoming a bigger problem in China, as demand for organs outstrips donors. Apple products are the most popular, but also the most cost-prohibitive.

10-Year-Old Has Daughter

A 10-year-old Colombian girl became one of the youngest women on record to give birth. She is apparently a member of the Wayuu tribe, which has its own jurisdiction, so charges against the father will not be pursued by conventional authorities. The 5-lb. baby girl was born by C-section, which is not unusual in cases of birth involving girls of such a young age, as their bodies are simply incapable of giving birth properly. Doctors also noted that the age at which girls start menstruating keeps dropping, though it remains at about age 12 to 13 for most girls.

The Bacon Coffin

A Seattle based company has launched a bacon coffin, made from 18-gauge steel with a faux bacon exterior and interior. The "bacon" is painted on to grant the illusion of the coffin as a slice of bacon. The company claims to have sold one unit so far, and insists the Bacon Coffin is no hoax.

Watches

It could be my imagination, but watches seem to be coming back into style. Really these days, they are almost purely for fashion, since clocks come embedded in every technological device imaginable and we carry a lot of them. But even just as accessories, even the luminox navy seal watch has its place. In fact, there is still a need for sports watches, as you don't have anywhere to put your phone when you are in athletic gear.

Upgraded

I took the plunge and upgraded to the new Blogger interface today. It was about to be forced upon us anyway, so I decided to go for it. I am still learning everything and wanted to make sure to let you know that so that any mistakes I make in the future can be blamed on it.

This interface is clean, but it is daunting. I have already made mistakes on it today and look to make more as I learn the whole thing. Bear with me here.

Bad Weather Expected

Please enjoy the archives the next day or two, because bad weather is expected in the area. As regular readers know, I have lost several computers lately due to lightning and am not taking any chances now; I have been unplugging the modem from the wall when bad weather is in the area.

That is not to say I won't be here - I don't know if I will be or not. It depends entirely on the weather and situation. That is also one of the reasons I am posting furiously today.

Wisconsin's Booming

Some Wisconsin residents question the official explanation for a series of booms that was heard over several nights recently. Officially, experts say an earthquake in the area caused the booms that kept people awake over several nights. However, this is a common explanation for unexplained booming sounds - when they are acknowledged. The booming noises do seem to have ceased, however.

This reminds me of the Yellowstone Lake Music we just discussed recently. That is also blamed on seismic activity in the area.

Mysterious Figure Spotted in UK

A mysterious, somewhat "featureless" figure spooked a family of three and a taxi driver late on a February night on the Ewell bypass. While the press was quick to label it Spring Heeled Jack, at least one expert was correct in saying that Spring Heeled Jack appeared in the late 19th Century and has not been seen since. He spit blue flames in peoples' faces and attacked women. The only similarity is that both figures bound in superhuman leaps.

The mysterious figure has been seen before this, as well. It has many paranormal experts assuming it is an apparition of some sort, though talk of aliens has also been made. Whatever the case, people are apparently seeing something near Nescot College.
