10 Stricken by Lightning

At least 10 people were stricken by lightning at an outdoors sporting event Sunday afternoon in Dorchester. Four are in critical condition.

The people had taken shelter under a large tree during a thunderstorm. Lightning struck the tree before bouncing to strike the men, eight of whom were rendered unconscious by the blast. All were transported to area hospitals, suffering burns and heart problems.

The men had been playing soccer when the thunderstorm arose. Some victims were injured by falling branches. The men's ages ranged from 13-41.

You should remember never to take coverage beneath trees in a thunderstorm; they used to tell us that in grade school.
