Ark. Gardener Uncovers Civil War-era Cannonball

An unidentified Fort Smith, AR man was gardening at his home when he unearthed a 4" round from the Civil War.  Authorities say it may still be live and plan to fire at it with "a shaped charge."  The impact will either detonate the device, split it apart, or put a hole in it.  The remnants will be put on display at a local museum.

Fort Smith and the surrounding areas hosted many engagements throughout the Civil War.
