UFO Photographed Over New York

With UFO sightings up around the country, New York was the fifth highest-reporting state in August of 2011.  From these reports comes a photograph of a diamond-shaped UFO taken on August 17th and reported to MUFON on the 23rd:

The photographer, who remains anonymous, said he believes he can make-out markings and windows on the object.  He also says it was moving at an incredible rate of speed and thinks it is emitting red and blue lights from either end.

Digital Dead Sea Scrolls

Now anyone with a computer or mobile phone can see the Dead Sea Scrolls by visiting the Digital Dead Sea Scrolls website, which went online today. A special camera in California is photographing many of the most important scrolls and placing the photos online, where anyone can view them. Visitors can zoom in and out and even translate portions into English.

The Scrolls were originally discovered in clay jars by a shepherd and sold to the Israel Museum by antiques dealers. Many believe them to be the first written documents of the Holy Bible.

Schoolboy Finds a Jarful of Fingers

A French schoolboy was digging behind the gymnasium of his grade school when he unearthed a jarful of human fingers. The four fingers had been sealed in a jar of alcohol and were slightly decomposed but in good condition.

After police made some calls, the relative of a former carpenter at the school said the man had lost four fingers on the site some 30 years prior. Police think this may have solved the mystery, but have not been able to contact the carpenter, who moved away years ago.

Now that fingers can be reattached, French police should expect a call from the man, asking, "CAN I GET THEM DIGITS!?"

(That was a long way to go for that joke.)

Trouble Sleeping

Got a new kitten and she's keeping me up all night long! It's been a good two weeks since I got a full night's sleep and it's catching-up to me. She's also driving my other cat nuts with her constant playfulness. Honestly, this is the most playful kitten I have ever seen. I love it, but it's only a blast for so long... and I'm starting to get over it.

Anyway, just wanted to stop by and let you know that I'm still here, just having a tough time getting going and staying there. I'll try to do better in coming weeks, as I'm going to buy some herbal supplement to help me sleep... and hope it works!

Has the Toe Suck Fairy Struck Again?

Arkansas police believe Michael Robert Wyatt, dubbed the Toe Suck Fairy for similar attacks in the Little Rock area in the 1990s, may be preying on women again in the Conway area. There have been two reports of a man with "messed-up toes" approaching women and commenting on their toes. In one attack, the unidentified man removed an old woman's shoe and sucked on her toes before asking if he could kiss her.

Authorities do not know if Wyatt, who served time in prison for threatening to cut-off a woman's toes and suck them as she bled to death, is behind the new wave of attacks, but he did operate in the Little Rock and Conway, Arkansas areas.

Whoever it is sucking toes in these Arkansas areas has done so without the owners' permission and is wanted for assault.

Praying in the Streets Outlawed in Paris

As of Friday, praying in the streets is illegal in Paris, France and the law may stretch to apply to all of France in coming months. Claude Guéant said that streets were for driving, not praying, and that although force would be used if necessary to enforce the ban, he didn't think it would be.

New Nessie Pics

Jon Rowe, a commercial fish farmer on Loch Ness, snapped a photograph showing a large, dark shadow beneath the waves with two humps protruding from them. He dismissed claims that the shapes could belong to a buoy, mooring, or diving birds, noting that he has worked and lived along the loch his entire life and never seen anything similar to whatever it is he photographed in the early morning light.

Rowe admits to being a skeptic before taking the picture, but says he is certain the object in the picture is the Loch Ness Monster.

White Spots on Mars

L.J. Wilson of Nashville, TN reported having seen several white spots on the face of Mars in 1911.  The spots were seen near the region of Hesperia.  The account was carried by the magazine, Nature.

In December of 1911, a Prof. Luther of the Dusseldorf Observatory claimed to have witnessed "half of the disc of Mars nearest the Moon" turn green.  The Professor theorized it must have been due to a lunar event, but made no claims beyond that.

One-Ton Croc Caught in Philippines

After a deadly attack, villagers in the Agusan del Sur province caught a record-breaking 20-foot saltwater crocodile weighing-in at over one ton. The crocodile had to be pulled by rope by some 100 villagers to a creek where it could be lifted onto a crane. Guinness Book of World Records lists the largest crocodile as just under 51/2 meters, which this one bests, though authorities are still waiting to see if this is the largest crocodile ever captured.

It is certainly the largest caught in the Philippines in recent years and has allayed the fears of some area villagers, but not all. Many believe an even larger saltwater crocodile may be in the area.

Woman Bites Man in "Vampire Attack"

A 22-year-old woman apparently bit an elderly man after the two got out of the rain and waited together on the porch of a vacant restaurant. The elderly man fell asleep and awoke to find the young woman on top of him, biting his arms and neck. He was treated at a hospital with stitches.

69-year-old Milton Ellis told police 22-year-old Josephine Smith told him she was a vampire and was "going to eat [him]." Smith was found bloody and half-naked nearby, but had no memory of the incident and did not identify herself to them as a vampire. She was arrested and is being held on bail.

Manpig Born in South America

'It looked like some kind of alien creature,' a local farmer told reporters about a piglet born with an eerily human-looking face. What makes the story double interesting is the fact that bright lights were seen in the area the night the piglet was born, leading some to believe the pig's human-like face may have been the work of aliens!

Of course, most scientists reject the notion of aliens having anything to do with it, suggesting that chemical pollution or some kind of genetic issue may have caused the birth defect. Citizens in Santa Cruz El Chol in Guatemala are not so sure.

The Metro had pictures but the link to the story is no longer available (2019).

Long Work Weekend

Sorry for my time away. Everyone here in America had a long weekend thanks to the holiday, but mine (as ever) was spent working. I know The Weirding has a long way to go, but I managed to get a handful of issues settled and a handful of new pages up - and previously-published pages fixed.

I know that you are visiting this blog because you're into cryptozoology, ufology, and the Unexplained, but there's a lot of that to be had across The Weirding as a whole. I am also interested in these things, and The Weirding is dedicated to odd, quirky, nerdy stuff along these very lines. You don't have to be a comic book geek or tabletop roleplaying nerd to appreciate everything else we have going on here.

So take a moment to check it out and let me know what you think! I'm all ears (and that's creepy as hell!).

(I HEARD THAT!)
