Hurricane Gustav hit the mainland without much fury. By the time it had landed in New Orleans, it had been downgraded from a possible level 5 hurricane to a level 2 "tropical storm." The eye of the storm is now in Louisiana and has been further downgraded to a level one hurricane.
Meanwhile, somewhere in the neighborhood of 2 million people have fled inland at the insistence of Mayor Ray Nagyn and the American media.
However, though Hurricane Gustav is nowhere near the Storm of the Century we were told it was sure to be, a lot of damage is still expected and some loss of life may be expected. Mayor Nagyn said people should not rush to return to the city.
