An 81-year old Australian felt pressured by friends and family to leave his house and move into a nursing home, which he did not want to do. Instead, he built a complex "suicide machine" from plans he found online and died in his front yard.
Francis Tovey downloaded plans for a complex suicide machine capable of firing several rounds into his head, then chose his driveway to do it in because he knew workers next door would hear the shots and find his body. He kept meticulous notes on his thoughts and plans prior to his death. The machine worked and the workers found him.
Authorities will not release how the machine worked, but reports indicate it had pieces of a jigsaw and was connected to a .22 gauge rifle.
