A 58-year old sniper shot and killed a witness set to testify against him in a trial today.
While the victim was exercising in the jail yard, the sniper set-up on a hill and fired five shots into the prison yard, killing the man and wounding another who rushed to his aid.
French authorities acknowledge this is the first time a prisoner on the inside has been killed by someone on the outside. The sniper was caught fleeing on a motorbike with fake license plates and the still-warm gun. He is a known player in the illegal drug trade. The victim was to testify on the man's involvement in his brother's murder.
